IFD celebrated

ITANAGAR, Dec 2: The Indigenous Faith Day was celebrated at various places of the state yesterday for protection, promotion and preservation of indigenous faiths and cultures.

A car rally was organized by Indigenous Faith and Cultural Society of Arunachal Pradesh from RK Mission Helipad, Ganga to Nyikum Niya Ground, Nirjuli where the main celebration was held.

Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly Speaker Nabam Rebia, Parliamentary Secretary (UD, Housing & Town planning etc.) Techi Kaso and Secretary R.K. Mission were present during the celebration.

Indigenous Faith Day was also celebrated at Tezu and Namsai.

All the indigenous faith believers participated in the celebrations wherein the importance of maintaining the age-old cultural practices and faith were highlighted. Lohit Deputy Commissioner Dr. BM Mishra attended the celebration at Tezu while at Namsai, Tai Khampti Singphoo Council Secretary, Chow Arina Manpoong and Namsai unit ABK president James Badu attended the celebration besides hundreds of indigenous faith believers.

Expanding its indigenous faith movement to Assam, IFCSAP yesterday celebrated IFD at Gogamukh, Dhemaji district yesterday in befitting manner organized by Indigenous Faith & Cultural Society of Dhemaji (IFCSD) district unit.

Speaking on the occasion, Mishing Bane Kebang president Paramananda Chayengia lauded the tireless efforts of IFCSAP for protection and promotion of indigenous faith and cultural system and also leading the indigenous movement in Assam, particularly in Mishing community for revival of their age-old culture and beliefs. He said Mishings, being descendants of Abotani, still practice the traditional systems of Abotani and believe in Donyi Polo. But many of them have forgotten their own culture, faiths and beliefs in the humdrum of modernization. He stressed the need for maintaining and protection of the age-old culture and traditions for one’s own identity.

He committed to celebrate Indigenous Faith Day next year at Dhemaji district, Assam. He also told that he was a contemporary member of indigenous faith movement led by Golgii Bote Talom Rukbo.

Speaking on the occasion, IFCSD President Bishnu Kuli stressed the importance of the society and celebration of Indigenous Faith Day in both Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.

IFCSAP vice president Gichik Taaza highlighted the aims and objective and necessity of Indigenous Faith Day celebration jointly by Arunachal and Assam to mark the birthday of Golgii Bote Talom Rukbo, the pioneer of indigenous movement in Arunachal Pradesh.

He stressed the need for revival of our lost culture and heritage by organizing seminar, symposium and workshop during festivals.

Arunachal Vikash Parishad Organising Secretary Sandeep Kavishwar while expressing concern over dilution of culture, appealed to all to stay rooted to their traditional practices and faiths system.

SSA teachers call on HRD minister, demands regularization of service

ITANAGAR, Dec 2: A delegation of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) teachers of Arunachal Pradesh accompanied by Union Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju called on Human Resource Development (HRD) Minister Smriti Jubin Irani at her office in New Delhi and submitted a one-point memorandum urging her for regularization of entire SSA teacher of Arunachal Pradesh in one go.

Highlighting the hardships faced by the SSA teachers in the state, the delegation appealed to the union minister to look into their demands on priority basis in the larger interest of those thousands of lowly paid teachers who have been rendering their service selflessly since launching of the SSA mission.

BCC contributes relief material to fire victim

ROING, Dec 2: The 43rd Roing (ST) assembly constituency, Block Congress Committee contributed relief items to a fire victim at Injono village here today.

The victim, Maya Pulu’s house along with other properties were completely destroyed in the fire accident last Wednesday at around 1 AM.

The cause of the fire is believed to be the untended fire from the local fireplace. The victim is a widow with three children, with no proper source of income.

Her house was re-built by the villagers and necessary household items were contributed by the BCC led by its president Zilla Mega and other members including APYC general secretary Emumi Mega.

BCIF writes to PM

ITANAGAR, Dec 2: Reiterating its allegation of incorporating the names of 165 non Indian Citizens (Chakma refugees) and 263 Private individual names in the list of land compensation at Hollongi for the construction of Greenfield airport, the Banderdewa Circle Intellectual Forum (BCIF) has called for CBI enquiry into it.

In its letter to the Prime Minister of India, the estimated cost of land compensation and details of assets at Hollongi site is Rs. 645.72 crores which has been prepared and estimated by the state Govt and forwarded to Ministry of Civil Aviation, Govt of India for financial approval is a great loss to Govt exchequer as it is misappropriation in the name of land compensation and acquisition by incorporating or registering the names of high profile politicians and their kiths and kins and Chakma refugees in the compensation list as a land owner without furnishing of any supporting documents of ownership.

Half portion of the proposed project site at Hollongi falls within the Chakma refugees settlement area and half fall within the Durpang reserved forest area which is purely Govt. land and as such there is no requirement of paying land compensation to any individuals as well as Chakma refugees as they are only entitled for resettlement and rehabilitation, the letter further read.

Annual conference of Nyishi Baptist Church Council Women held

ITANAGAR, Dec 2: The 21st Nyishi Baptist Church Council Women Annual Conference was at Jote Baptist Church, under Poma Pastoral Range, Papum Pare District from November 27 to 30.

Rev. Changha Chippo former General Secretary NBCC delivered the Word of God on the Theme: - “She speaks with wisdom……” taken from Proverbs.31:26, while Likha Yaniam, Principal CES, NBCC Compound took the Bible Study from the book of Ruth.

Dr. Bengia Mala Kop and Rev. Halli Likha Ama, General Secretary, NBCC spoke on the topic Health and Hygiene and Women Ministry in the growth of the society respectively.

More than 5000 delegates from various districts attended the conference.

Arrest illegal hunters: TCYA

ITANAGAR, Dec 2: Claiming that four people were caught illegally fishing and hunting at Papum river on the midnight of November 30, the Taraso Circle Youth Association (TCYA) has called for their immediate arrest under Forest Acts. It had lodged a FIR at Balijan Police station immediately after the incident.

The association claimed that the miscreants were caught with arms and ammunition and many dead monkeys and more than 50kgs of fishes were recovered from them who later escaped the scene before being apprehended.

The dead animals were later submitted at Balijan Police Station.

YOMA for devolution of power to DEE

ITANAGAR, Dec 2: In line with the Arunachal Pradesh Elementary Teachers' Association (APETA), the Youth Organization Movement of Arunachal Pradesh (YOMA) has also sought devolution of power to the Directorate of Elementary Education (DEE) as State Project Director (SPD).

In its letter submitted to the chief secretary referring to the order SEDN/46/2003 Dt. 28/10/2010 which says that the DEE shall look after the entire elementary education including SSA-RTE programmes, the organization made the demand.

The order also states that the DEE shall ipso facto act as the SPD.

It further set an ultimatum of 20 days for fulfillment of the demand failing which it warned of launching democratic agitation.

AKKDSU conducts education and legal awareness tour

ITANAGAR, Dec 2: The All Kurung Kumey District Students’ Union (AKKDSU) conducted an education tour cum social and legal awareness campaign in all the schools of Kurung Kumey district from November 24 to 29 last.

Themed ‘Through education’, the AKKDSU team reached schools in the most remote areas of the district and distributed sports items, textbooks and stationeries. The team was also accompanied by All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) general secretary Biru Nasi and All Nyishi Students’ Union (ANSU) general secretary Nyanya Gollo.

The union has further urged the school education authority to run schools in proper manner as various schools of the district are facing problems like school boundary, teacher shortage, irregularity of teachers, poor infrastructure, poor facilities, MDM etc.

‘Check LPG black marketing’

ITANAGAR, Dec 2: The Capital Youth Organization (CYO) has urged the IMWA to check black marketing of LPG cylinders, stray animal, and illegal selling of liquors in various sectors in Itanagar failing which CYO will launch movement against such illegal activities for the welfare and the betterment of the capital dwellers, a CYO release said.

Thousands pay last respect to former CM Gamlin

ITANAGAR, Dec 2: Thousands of people queued up to pay their last respect to their beloved former Chief Minister Jarbom Gamlin at Naharlagun helipad today when his body reached from New Delhi, after his demise at Medanta Hospital in Gurgaon on November 30 last.

Assembly Speaker Nabam Rebia, Deputy Speaker T N Thongdok, Home Minister Tanga Byaling, PWD Minister Gojen Gadi, many Parliamentary Secretaries, MLAs, top Government officers were among the mourners seen paying floral tributes and last respect to the body of the departed soul.

Wreaths were also placed on the mortal remains on behalf of the Governor, Gen. Nirbhay Sharma and Chief Minister Nabam Tuki.

Later the body has been flown to Aalo and will be kept there for paying last respect by the people of the district before the last rite to be held on Wednesday.

The President of India, Pranab Mukherjee and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have condoled the passing away of former Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh Jarbom Gamlin.

In his condolence message to his wife, Shakuntala Gamlin, the President has said, “I am extremely saddened to learn about the passing away of Gamlin.

“Gamlin made immense contribution towards the welfare of the people of the State of Arunachal Pradesh. His dedicated services as Legislator, Minister, Member of Parliament and Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh will always be remembered. In his death, the nation has lost a leader, who always worked for the common man,” the President said in his condolence message.

“Kindly accept my heartfelt condolences and convey the same to other members of your family. I pray to the Almighty to give you and your family the strength and courage to bear this irreparable loss”.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his condolence message said “I am deeply saddened to learn of the demise of Jarbom Gamlin. His contribution to the development of Arunachal Pradesh in various capacities will always be remembered. I convey my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and relatives.”

The rank and file of the Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) led by its president Padi Richo deeply mourned the death of former Chief Minister Jarbom Gamlin.

In a condolence meeting held here, Richo recalled the contributions of Late Gamlin as politician and Congress leader for all round development of state.

His untimely demise is a great loss for the State, the APCC said. Congress leaders including ministers, deputy Speaker and members of frontal organizations attended the condolence meeting and observed two minute’s silence as a mark of respect to departed soul.

Expressing sadness at the untimely demise of Gamlin, the Indigenous Faith and Cultural Society of Arunachal Pradesh (IFCSAP) said Late Gamlin will be remembered as a beholder of indigenous faith and culture and guiding person on preservation and promotion of our rich cultural heritage. His contribution towards over-all development of the state will be remembered by the people in years to come. The university fraternity also deeply mourned the death of former CM Jarbom Gamlin. In a condolence meeting, the faculty, officer/staff and students led by VC Prof. Tamo Mibang and Prof. Rachob Taba observed one minute silence as a mark of respect to the departed soul. The office was declared closed in the second half. VC Prof. Tamo Mibang and Prof. Rachob Taba also recalled contribution of former CM on the occasion.

“The contribution of former Chief Minister Jarbom Gamlin towards society and its people and his work for the development of the state in the capacity of Chief Minister, Lok Sabha MP, minister and MLA shall always be remembered forever” said All Nyishi Students’ Union (ANSU) President Byabang Joram. Late Gamlin was known for his kindness, commitment and dedication toward society, ANSU said and termed his death as loss of intellectual asset of the state. The Central Executive members of All Nyishi Students’ Union (ANSU) also observed two minutes silence at its office here today and prayed for the eternal peace of departed soul.

Parliamentary secretary, Tax and Excise Tapuk Taku expressed deep shock at the untimely demise of former Chief Minister Gamlin. The contribution of Late Gamlin towards development of our state while holding different ministerial berth were remarkable, Taku said in a condolence message.

Remembering the contribution of Late Gamlin, Arunachal Pradesh Horticulture Produce Marketing Board chairman Kipa Niya in his condolence message said “We have lost one of the most magnetic and admired leaders of the state.”

The Tagin Cultural Society also expressed deep sorrow over the untimely demises of Jarbom Gamlin. Lt. Gamlin was one of the dynamic leaders of the state, his immense contribution to the society will be remembered by the society for ever, TCS president Tabu Paktung said. Yesterday prominent politicians, Govt officers, senior citizens and general public attended a condolence meeting at Donyi Polo Namlo Ground Daporijo and mourned the death of former Chief Minister Gamlin.

The Tarh Welfare Society (TWS), while mourning the untimely demise of former Chief Minister said, “Late Gamlin was a dynamic and vocal political leader the state has ever produced. The vacuum left by his untimely demise shall never be filled and his service to the people of Arunachal Pradesh shall be remembered in the years to come.”

“With his demise our state has lost a man of conviction and strong values. The former CM Jarbom Gamlin will be remembered always by the people of state for his contribution, the Theravada Buddhist Society (TBS) of Itanagar chairman Chow Miko Longphong said in his condolence message.

The Central Executive Commissioner of Arunachal Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan Teachers Association, while mourning the death of former CM, said the Association will always remember Late Gamlin for his yeoman service towards teaching community, particularly SSA teachers of the state.

“We will always remember him for his straightforwardness and invaluable contributions to our Mishing community, said a representative of Mishing Community residing in Capital Complex.

While mourning the death of former CM, Arunachal Civil Society (ACS) said ‘With his demise the state has lost one more torchbearer and unmatched politician whose contribution as students leader, Minister and Chief Minister is immeasurable.

The Tanii Supuñ Dukuñ (TSD), apex body of Apatani community, while expressing deep shock over the untimely death of Late Jarbom Gamlin, said that not only Arunachal Pradesh but the country as a whole has lost one of the most capable leaders.

“We have lost one of the most dedicated and committed leaders of the State and untimely demise of former Chief Minister Gamlin has created a vacuum which cannot be filled easily” said Apatani Cultural and Literary Society (ACLS), Ziro in a condolence message.

Extending the football fraternity's sorrow over the death of former chief minister Gamlin, the Arunachal Pradesh Football Association general secretary Gensi Doke today termed it a 'great loss for the state'. "He was a revolutionary leader and as former president of the association helped us aim higher to improve football standards in the state", he said.

All staff of the Arunachal Bhawan, Kolkata and Arunachal students led by DRC Bijoy Talukdar in a condolence meeting today deeply mourned the death of Gamlin.

Mother & minor child charred

ITANAGAR, Dec 2: A major tragedy struck at Tato circle under Mechukha Sub-Division in West Siang district on Monday morning when a mother and her minor child were charred to death in a devastating fire mishap.

While informing this reporter over telephone from Tato, Jony Pinggam, president, Boh Ramo Bokar (Adi) Elite Society, said, the victims identified as Yajum Ruchi and her two and half year old baby Linya Ruchi were charred by the fire that engulfed the entire house (OBT) within few minutes. The fire broke out at around 11.25 am yesterday.

The actual cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained although an electric short circuit is suspected to have caused the fire.

Reportedly, Tali Ruchi, the husband and father of the deceased was at his native village, Yapik, around 20 km from Tato for some work and other children were in school when the tragedy struck. Ruchi is the vice president of SI-YOMI ABKYW Mechukha Block.

Household properties worth lakhs of rupees were reduced to ashes in the fire. Pinggam on behalf of the Boh Ramo Bokar (Adi) Elite Society made a fervent appeal to the state govt., particularly district administration to provide immediate relief to the victims.

Meanwhile, expressing shock over the tragic incident, Adi Bane Kebang Youth Wing (ABYKW) strongly appealed to the state govt. especially district administration to provide immediate relief to the victim.

Fisheries Dept. earns Rs 2.36 lakh from 31 fish farms

ITANAGAR, Dec 2: The Department of Fisheries has managed to earn a total revenue of a meager Rs 2,35,726 from all the 31 government fish farms in the state during the financial year 2014-15. The total revenue earned from those fish farms in the previous financial year was Rs.12,19,841.

According to a fisheries department release, the earnings of various fish farms in the end of the current financial year were, Changlang Rs. 23,000, Lower Subansiri Rs 15,600, Upper Subansiri Rs.18,100, East Siang Rs. 3,000, Papum Pare Rs 17,440, Namsai Rs 1,04,286, West Siang Rs. 7,050, Lohit Rs. 14,800, West Kameng Rs 1,000, Upper Siang Rs 31,450. There were no earnings from fish farms of Tawang, Lower Dibang Valley, East Kameng, Tirap, Itanagar (HQ), Anjaw, Dibang Valley, Kurung Kumey, the release informed. The fisheries department had allotted Rs.60 lakhs for maintenance of 31 government fish farms in the financial year 2013-14, the release added.

Fish farmers trained on cold water fishery management

ITANAGAR, Dec 2: The fish farmers of West Kameng district were trained on coldwater fisheries management in hilly areas of Arunachal Pradesh in a five days training programme organized by Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Dirang under the sponsorship of National Fisheries Development Board Hyderabad and National Research Center on Yak (ICAR) Dirang, Arunachal Pradesh at the conference hall of NRC on Yak, Dirang.

The inaugural function was chaired by Dr. S.M Deb Director, N.R.C on Yak, Dirang Arunachal Pradesh along with the Chief Guest Mr. C. Muralidharan, Executive Director (Finance and Administration) N.F.D.B Hyderabad and Guest of Honour Dr. R.C Barman (Officer In charge) N.F.D.B Regional Center Guwahati Assam.

Addressing the fish farmers on the occasion, Dr. ND Singh, Programme Coordinator, KVK Dirang stressed the urgency of conducting such training programme to develop the coldwater fisheries as the region has a lot of potential in this sector. He encouraged the fish farmers to learn the technology and apply them in their fish ponds to increase production as there was high demand for fish in the district.

Dr. RC Barman, officer In charge of NFDB Regional Center Guwahati made the farmers aware about different schemes of N.F.D.B for the development of fisheries in the North East Region. A farmer’s friendly training manual for the coldwater fisheries development in hilly areas of Arunachal Pradesh was also released during the opening ceremony.

The technical session of the training covered various aspects to develop cold water fisheries in West Kameng.

In total 25 participants form different areas of West Kameng attended training along with the Anchal Chairperson of Dirang.

National Press Day observed

Play constructive role, maintain professional ethics:Thongchi

ITANAGAR, Dec 2: “Media should always play a constructive role in promoting harmony and better understanding in the society”, said, State Chief Information Commissioner, Y D Thongchi. He was addressing the National Press Day function at State Banquet Hall here today.

Attending as the chief guest of the function, Thongchi called upon the press and media persons of the state for maintaining professional ethics, underlining that role of media is important in the development of the country and bringing awareness on varied issues among the people of the country.

Lauding the yeoman service of the journalists of the state, Thongchi added that the journalists working in the state are maintaining press ethics better than their counterparts.

Speaking as the guest of honour on the occasion, Sports and Youth Affairs secretary Dani Sulu while emphasising on the presentation of news said that the way it is presented can rift or unite the society. Salu, called upon the media fraternity to rise to the challenge of competing with super fast translation of social media of instant news. Organised media unlike social media owes a responsibility to its readers, audiences and listeners in the way the news is told to the people and its analytical content, he opined. Citing that the numbers of newspapers in the state have grown, he urged the presspersons to introspect whether the quality of the newspapers had increased content-wise. He further called upon them to continue their commitment and keep their zeal for writing for the growth of media in the state.

Attending the event as special guest, Telegraph Senior Correspondent Nishit Dholabhai said that local media here needs to portray the issues of Arunachal Pradesh more to the national audience. He was speaking on the theme – ‘Media today and tomorrow vis-a vis Arunachal Pradesh’.

Stating that while media has expanded, it has also become more and more insular, Dholabhai added that North East and Arunachal Pradesh are victims of this insular world. He said, the new media, basically internet can be the answer to create more visibility of Arunachal Pradesh and North East in general, in removing the narrow prism through or general perception the world sees the state and the rest of the North East.

The HIM–KAI Excellence in Journalism Awards instituted this year by the press fraternity of the state was also given during the function. The award for best reporting on Women, Children & Gender issues Category was conferred on Nillie Manpong, Tanom Jerang in the Development Category, while Jackson Tayeng was recognized for his contribution under Politics and Governanance Category and Debananda S Medak in Science and Environment Category.

The Him-Kai Excellence in Journalism Awards is an attempt to recognise and reward the work of journalists from the state whose stories often do not receive the wide readership and appreciation that they deserve. The word ‘Him-Kai’ is derived from the Himalayas and the Pat Kai mountain ranges that run from the west to the east of the state.

The cash awards of Rs 10000 to each winner was specifically sponsored by the NGO Living Dreams. The other sponsors are The Arunachal Times Private Limited and entrepreneur Elvis Tallang.

Prizes for the Chief Minister’s Running Trophy for the Best Debate Team and Best Debater at the 6th National Press Day Debate held on Nov 29 were also given out in the function. The Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU) team retained the Chief Minister’s Running Trophy for the Best Debate Team and Don Bosco College Itanagar walked away with the Runners Up award for the Best Debate Team.

RGU’s Kenli Nyorak was given the Best Debater award and Saurav Mitra the runners up award. The participating teams were Dera Natung Government College, Itanagar, National Institute of Technology, Yupia, Government College Doimukh, Don Bosco College, Jullang, North East Homeopathic Medical College and Hospital, Itanagar and Rajiv Gandhi University.

The members present also paid respects to the departed soul of former Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh, late Jarbom Gamlin by observing two-minutes silence.

Community horti farming to boost development: Pul

HAYULIANG, Dec 2: The community horticulture farming project launched by the National Agriculture Bank for Rural Development (NABARD) would herald a new era of socio-economic development in Anjaw district bordering China in Arunachal Pradesh, Health & Family Welfare Minister Kalikho Pul today said.

This is NABARD’s largest project in NE to be implemented by the National Youth Project (NYP), he said after launching it here today.

Future of this Himalayan state lies in agri-horticulture sector which contributes 57 percent to national gross domestic product (GDP), he said, adding the project would improve the lot of 1016 families of 125 villages in eight circles.

The project aims at bringing the community under one umbrella to provide them training, technical support and market linkage for value addition for the farmers of large cardamom, kiwi, plum, apple and orange for earning remunerative prices, Pul disclosed.

Pul said it would promote the vast agri-horti potential of the state with the market opening up in neighbouring South East Asian nations through the Stillwell road and exhorted the NYP to provide the market linkage.

Pul, who earlier handed over the People’s Choice Award to Kasanglat Farmers’ Club and lauded Greeks Network MD S Ramaswamy who demonstrated the digital pen used for documentation, appreciated the NABARD and NYP for their path-breaking initiative and assured all support.

Cardamom has replaced opium which could be proved in any of the valleys which now have only cardamom cultivation, Pul said with confidence and exhorted the local youth to join horticulture movement lest they lag behind.

He announced to install drying machine in every circle from MLALAD fund and set up de-addiction centres in opium affected districts including Anjaw to the thunderous applause of the gathering.

This was substantiated with the local SBI branch having huge deposit from the cardamom growers. In fact, Hayuliang BCC president and progressive farmer, D Awailang admitted that in 2013 he had earned Rs 25 lakh from his 10 acres land in Dalai Valley in Chaglagam circle.

Expressing his happiness, Governor Lt Gen (Retd) Nirbhay Sharma, in a message, said that rich horticultural crops grow aplenty in the state and provide alternative sources of livelihood and income generation to the rural communities. The project would provide sustainable livelihood and go a long way in curbing opium cultivation and strengthen the rural economy, he said.

Appreciating NYP for its commendable job in providing alternate livelihood to the people in distress, he lauded the NABARD and NYP for its initiative and felicitated the people of Anjaw. This is largest project in NE to benefit the masses, said NABARD Arunachal Pradesh regional office GM H K Singh, adding Sagalee farmers expanded area following success in orange cultivation. He suggested the growers to form producers’ cooperative societies to avail other benefits to make it a sustainable source of income.

NYP president H. P Biswas and vice president Pradeep Kumar explained how they had convinced 22 opium addicts to form two farmers’ club at Goiliang and Kasonglat with the support of NABARD to up large cardamom cultivation and other farming activities in 2010. Their produce was sold for Rs 1.67 crore in 2011–12 with the NYP’s market linkage. The cultivation served as alternate source of livelihood for them to get distracted from opium cultivation, replicated by many in the district to ink a success story to ink a success story, the said.

While this project is recognition of the good deed, NABARD has made a documentary of the success story as national role model to be upload to NABARD’s national portal and YouTube soon besides distributing one lakh posters of Anjaw cardamom growers in the country.

Villagers oppose firing range at Durpa -I

ITANAGAR, Dec 2: The public of Durpa village under Kimin circle in Papum Pare district have opposed tooth and nail the proposal for setting up ITBP firing range at Durpa-I as the proposed location was not suitable for such purpose since the area is surrounded by civil population.

Though a handful of persons with vested interest have given their consent for establishment of the firing range with an ulterior motive to claim compensation, majority of the conscious villagers are opposing it because of the fact that the firing range, if constructed, will make their life miserable due to sound pollution that will be produced during practice time.

The villagers who are opposing the firing range, in a signed representation to Papum Pare Deputy Commissioner, claimed that the proposed firing range at Durpa-I had been serving as the lifeline for the villagers. The daily necessities, such as firewood, bamboo and other materials for construction of house and other essential forest products were collected from the said area by the poor villagers. It was also used for grazing domestic animals. But, the villagers are now facing hardship as they are not being allowed to enter into the area by the 10th ITBP, they claimed.

Moreover, the sound that will be produced from the firing range will disturb the peaceful atmosphere of the higher secondary school which is located in the same area, they said.

Meanwhile, the Principal of the Govt. Hr. Sec. School, Kimin, in a letter to ITBP Commandant last month, has declared No Noise/Disturbance certificate issued earlier by him as null and void.

“The No Noise/Disturbance certificate issued earlier by me stands cancelled for all purposes,” the school principal’s letter to the ITBP Commandant read.

It is worth mentioning here that, the villagers have been opposing setting of the firing range since 2011 and a memorandum was submitted to then Kimin EAC on April 27, 2011 demanding not to allot land to ITBP at Durpa-I for firing range.

According to information made available to this daily, the Durpa-I & II villages fall within the boundary of the proposed Kimin Town with more than 4374 populations (as per 2011 census).

A meeting was held in the conference hall of Kimin EAC in August this year regarding notification of Kimin Township wherein it was resolved that the area from 2KM along Kimin-Potin road (stone crusher) in the North, first ITBP Gate near Budh Bazar in the South, Model Village upto Kimin River in the East and ITBP Firing Range in the West should be included and be the boundary of the proposed Kimin town.

Be a good transporter

Dear Editor,

From the last three months, I have been a regular passenger, travelling through various means of transportation available here in Capital Complex like Sumo, trekker and auto-rickshaw. I had to distance myself from my bike due to an unlucky-accident.

Now am getting to understand and experience the differences between good and bad driver. Of course, there are many good drivers who does not have shameless bad-mouth and drives their vehicle according to the required speed, taking good care of each passengers and taking right fare. But I have to tell that, amongst them there are many who do not fit to be on the road. Yes, every person is different, so every driver is different. But we should try to improve ourselves towards moulding better attitude and behaviour by providing good services to all, which includes not only the person who boarded your vehicle but even the outsiders who walks and stands near you.

Henceforth, I being one of the passengers would like to request the driver-fraternities not to hurry and develop good image as a transporter.

May god rest JARBOM’s soul in peace

The premature demise of former Chief Minister Jarbom Gamlin is a great and irreparable loss for all of us. Words are never adequate in moment like this and words can not just express how saddened we are to hear his demise.

Gamlin, popularly called Achi Jarbom even by the elders, was a leader par excellence with unparallel personality admired and respected by all. I knew him since he became AAPSU president in 1981. His braveness and leadership qualities were well narrated to us by the friends of mine who attended the AAPSU conference from our school.

On a cold winter day in 1990, someone called me up loudly “Podia.” I was basking in the sun in the backyard of my official residence at Banderdewa on the eve of an AAPSU sponsored bandh when I was being called up. I responded to his call and sent a domestic helper to guide him to my house. I could not recognize the handsome looking guy with commanding voice until he introduced himself as Jarbom Gamlin.

“Podia Aldure”, he greeted me; and said, “Ngo Jarbom Na”. Thus a long-felt desire of mine to meet him was fulfilled. I was so impressed with him at the first meeting.

He then requested me for a help and said he had left his car (Gypsy) at Banderdewa Police check gate on account of AAPSU Bandh. He requested me to drop him at Naharlagun which I readily accepted and drove him up to Naharlagun as vehicle on electricity duty was exempted from the purview of the bandh.

Again in 1996, when I was posted back at Naharlagun from Khonsa, I met him again. By then we had a good friend circle of five to six. As far as my memory is concerned, he was the first person to have a private Maruti 1000 CC (air conditioned) car in the entire Capital Complex. We had spent some memorable times with him and had the privilege to go for joy rides in his Maruti car for hunting and fishing.

In 1997, I left for Tawang on posting. Thereafter, I met him once in a blue moon as he was also actively involved in politics. Thereafter, there was no looking back for him and became MP, MLA and then Minister.

I felt so proud of him as he was adorning high and responsible positions.

In 2009, when he became Power Minister during Dorjee Khandu led Government I had the opportunity to meet him again closely.

On a fine evening of August 2011, I went to meet him at his official Bunglow when he was Chief Minister. I waited alone in one of the rooms in his bungalow for sometimes as there were no other visitors on that evening. He sent a message through one of his relatives to see him on the next day as he was damn busy.

Then I saw him for a moment in a car between Naharlagun – Itanagar road. Perhaps that was the last time I saw him.

It would have been a life time memory for me if I had the opportunity to meet him on August 2011 evening at his bungalow.

He had the extra-ordinary quality to mix up with people of all ages and behaved with them accordingly. We were never allowed to feel that he was older than us.

Such “Down to Earth” quality made him so popular among all sections of the people. He was a gifted leader having amazing commanding quality which is hardly found in most of the leaders.

I personally feel that every Arunachalee, irrespective of their caste, religion, tribes and political affiliations, is deeply shocked and saddened at the premature demise of Achi Jarbom.

I will always remember him fondly and have wonderful memories of many times spent with him all during those days.

“May almighty God rest his soul in peace.”

A sector Naharlagun

Let us support development activities

Dear Editor,

Peraang is the most suitable place for establishment of the headquarters of the newly created Siang district either from the topographic or geographic point of view.

I appreciate Local MLA and Education Minister Tapang Taloh for his bold initiative in getting Peraang declared as the temporary headquarters of Siang district. He might have taken the decision after through feasibility study and future infrastructure development scopes of the area.

Everyone should appreciate and support him in his endeavour to bring all round development to the area instead of crying foul and criticizing the minister.

I appeal to all to refrain from any kind of activity which may hamper the future development initiatives.
